Bitcoin

Discussion about Bitcoin. BitcoinSV restores the original Bitcoin protocol, will keep it stable, and allow it to massively scale on-chain. BSV will maintain the vision laid out by Satoshi Nakamoto in the 2008 white paper - Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System.

We just updated our Discord gambling bot, flashflip, to accept 0-conf bitcoin transactions safely!

You can join the flashflip discord server by clicking here -> http://flashflip.io
It's a bitcoin gambling bot built into Discord, and you can now play with bitcoin deposits that have no confirmations! After making your deposit, simply use the command "!precredit" and your deposit will be precredited for you to play with. Note that you will only be able to withdraw or tip out profits from your deposit if the deposit reaches 1 confirmation.
Excited to combine bitcoin and instant, since it's quite rare to see these days ;D LN will be added soon!

0-conf bitcoin transaction?

I installed a new wallet for my friend. I sent her some bucks with 1 sat fee. Zero ballance in her wallet because it was new. A couple of seconds later it shows up on her wallet. She then immediately sent some of it back to me.
I thought you need at least one confirmation before you can send it further. Is this a feature of our wallets? Samourai and green address?

0-conf: Bitcoin users, where do we stand today?

Whether you are a shopper or running a business, I'd like to hear from everyone what your experiences are:
Do you use/handle 0-conf Bitcoin transactions?
What are the reasons this is practical or impractical for you?
Do you see the landscape changing, or is it business-as-usual?
I'm asking this because recently, someone asked me:
"0-conf transactions have basically been removed from bitcoin, right?"
I feel this is not the case, but perhaps I'm wrong. I certainly haven't heard this view from many people, but I'm curious if businesses have disabled 0-conf, whether the reasons were fraud/security issues (double spend risk), or whether it was done for some other reasons.
EDIT: A small request: in this thread, please don't downvote people below the visibility threshold unless they really are violating guidelines on this sub. If they are bringing up points for discussion, even if you think they're lame or tired arguments, let's keep them visible so that counterarguments will also be seen.

0-conf is not some special transaction type, they are the beginning of every Bitcoin transaction

every single Bitcoin transaction begins as a zero confirmation transaction, then eventually gets confirmations and included in a block with multiple confirmations solidifying it's security against reversal/manipulation.
on a side note, LN transactions also begin as 0-conf Bitcoin transactions (then perform all their activity outside the Bitcoin network then finally settle back to the Bitcoin network, maybe)
Bitcoin transaction security was always a sliding scale of risks that completely change based on how you are using Bitcoin. 0-conf Bitcoin transactions can be completely safe for numerous use cases, especially small value transactions.
If you were trying to encourage more adoption of Bitcoin you would be finding ways to make 0-conf only appear risky but still much less risky than in person credit card transactions
wonder what would happen if people were trying to slow/prevent adoption of Bitcoin

Dash FastPass: A Trial Run for Dash Platform

The Dash FastPass initiative is a really great idea. A while ago, I released a video outlining the situation that Dash now had the potential to enable near-instantaneous transfers between exchanges due to its InstantSend and Chainlocks technologies. The exchanges, though, were sleeping on this potential to delight their users with a better experience.
How can Dash offer instant transactions?
On the surface, the same way that any other proof of work coin could do it: 0-conf. Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Dogecoin, they're all capable of doing this. But, with 0-conf you run the risk of double-spend attacks that have been proven to be quite trivial to pull off if one knows what they are doing. So, the Dash development team, understanding the need for both speedy and secure transactions, developed InstantSend and Chainlocks to give Dash transactions triple-stage security...

I am hearing a lot of talking about 0-conf being unsafe for business lately. Well if that is so, surely cases of real-life BCH merchants being scammed using double-spending 0-conf have to exist, right? Could somebody provide such examples?

I am asking because there are a lot of merchants accepting 0-conf Bitcoin Cash for over 2 years and I haven't heard of a single case of scam using double spend.
I think even in the old BTC times, when blocks were mostly empty and there was no RBF, Coinbase and Bitpay were accepting 0-conf transactions and I also never heard of a case of successful double-spending of a merchant and walking out of a store with stolen coffee. If there were any, I don't remember them - please do remind me.
EDIT:
Also, Bitcoin Cash has been under constant attack from all sides since the inception. So don't even get started with the "nobody wants to attack it, because the profit is too little" argument.
There is a great prize for successfully attacking Bitcoin Cash in any way possible: Destruction of its reputation.

Bitcoin has no scaling plans ready for wide adoption. As such, it will push away adoption & new users due to its increasing UN-usability, especially as exponential new # of users attempt to onboard. Just as in 2017, once fees & conf times get too high, users will move to blockchains that CAN scale.

Individuals, businesses, developers: learn from our simple Bitcoin guides. How Bitcoin works, what is Bitcoin, what is blockchain, how to buy Bitcoin, what is Bitcoin mining and more. By default, Bitcoin (or bitcoind) will look for a file named 'bitcoin.conf' in the bitcoin data directory, but both the data directory and the configuration file path may be changed using the -datadir and -conf command-line arguments. Operating System Default bitcoin datadir Typical path to configuration file Follow the steps below to enable prune mode in Bitcoin core wallet. 1. First locate your wallet configuration file. If you don’t find bitcoin.conf file in your Bitcoin directory then create one. 2. Open wallet, go to settings >> options and click on open configuration file. 3.The config file will be mostly empty. bitcoin.conf. link Link to this Config File cloud download Download Config File. OK ... The bitcoin.conf file is not created by default, you will need to create it yourself. And also, I never had a c:\users\[username]\appdata\roaming\bitcoin folder as many online answers will suggest, this is because when I installed the bitcoin core program, I chose to put my data directory in a different place than default.
